The recent renovations of Craver Architects reflects the move away from a traditionally paper-based company to digital. Architects historically have required tremendous storage capabilities for countless rolls of paper. Now, through the use of DWG and PDF files, much of our drawing and document storage and client design communications is occuring digitally. Not only does that free up space for work areas but it is in keeping with our philosophy about going green where ever possible.
As a founding owner of this small business located in Old Town Alexandria, taking on the challenge of designing a retail layout within the existing space was an opportunity to design an orderly backdrop to a vibrant, colorful and ever changing product. We successfully combined retail, teaching and office zones that could function independantly while allowing for easy flow between each use.
Color selection was important on the exterior, to find a color that made the small storefront stand out from it's neighbors as well as on the interior, as a backdrop that was neutral yet still reflected the company brand. Bringing inside the entryway's periwinkle color to the cashier's desk completed the connection.
We worked closely with a talented graphic designer to create a logo and brand for the company that was connected well to the design of the retail space.
